June 15, 2024 – Update on Inverhuron development projects + PWEP fundraising

Friends,

We're pleased to share our June newsletter with you, and provide you with the latest updates.

Regarding the Tidman development, the judicial review process is running its course; thanks to the evidence we were able to assemble, we are confident that we have a strong case. The court hearing has yet to be scheduled, but will likely take place in the fall. In the meantime, no work should take place at the site; we are keeping a watchful eye and have asked anyone in the community who notices any activity at the site to let us know, so that we may take preventive steps. Thanks to a timely alert, for example, we were able to stop the felling of trees at the site by contacting Environment Canada and sharing our concerns with regards to the migratory bird breeding season.

We know it's a long process and we appreciate your sticking with us; rest assured that we will continue to do everything it takes to bring this case before the court and fight for a positive outcome.

As for the Sundance development, our sense is that no news is good news: the next step in the process is supposed to be the public meeting, which has yet to be scheduled. We have had no word from the municipal or county planning department in this regard. As soon as we are notified of the public meeting date we will circulate this information to the PWEP mailing list. As far as we can see, the project seems to be stalled due at least in part to environmental concerns that were raised in a recent environmental peer review commissioned by Bruce County (you can read more about this on the PWEP blog).

Last but not least, we have a huge cause for celebration: the goal of PWEP's fundraising campaign for protecting sensitive natural environments in Inverhuron has been reached and exceeded! We asked for $6,000, and thanks to your incredibly generous contributions we have been able to raise the funds necessary to initiate the judicial review process against the Tidman development. None of this would be possible without you, so we want to say a huge Thank You to all of you for your unwavering and generous support!

We have decided to raise our fundraising goal by an additional $3000, which according to our current estimates we will need to cover expenses connected to the court hearing. We want to be ready to hit the ground running as soon as the date of the hearing is announced, so please help us be ready to cover additional legal fees, peer reviews and whatever else may be necessary to achieve a positive outcome.

So please, if you can, donate here. You can also help spread the word by sending the PWEP website link to your network and encourage people to learn about our projects and sign up to our mailing list.

Protecting Sensitive Natural Environments in Inverhuron is a project done in partnership with the Small Change Fund. SCF provides PWEP with the crowdfunding platform and expert advice, thus helping grassroots organizations such as ours amplify our impact. Your donations go directly to our project, in support of the work we are doing.

Wishing you all a great start into the summer!

In gratitude,

The Team @ PWEP
