October 5, 2023 – Urgent! One more ask: email Lisa Thompson, MPP

Updated: Dec 13, 2023

Friends,

We know we've been asking a lot of you in the past 24 hours, but this is important. We'll keep it brief this time: please add your voice to our email campaign targeting Lisa Thompson, our MPP for Huron-Bruce. In addition to keeping the pressure on with the municipality, we think it is important to escalate this matter to the provincial level and push for an appeal on the Tidman development by the October 16th deadline. Please see suggested phrasing at the end of this email.

If we are successful in opposing the Tidman development, an important precedent will be set for future development in the area. We will be sending out a clear message to developers and local planning authorities: think twice before trying to impose large- scale, environmentally questionable developments on the Inverhuron community!

So, please join us in our critique of Bill 23, and ask Lisa Thompson to lend her support in appealing the Tidman subdivision decision.

Once again, thank you for everything you are doing – this movement would not be possible without you all.

In gratitude,

The Team @ PWEP (Philosopher's Wool Environmental Preserve)

SUGGESTED EMAIL TEMPLATE FOR LISA THOMPSON

I am writing to you regarding the proposed Tidman subdivision in Inverhuron lots 6 to 10; E Victoria St W Albert Street, File number S-2022-15, Z-2022-084. I, along with a group of more than 200 Inverhuron residents, have signed a petition opposing this development. Our opposition has been made clear to the Kincardine Municipality and Bruce County.

Because of your Ontario Government's Bill 23, we as citizens have lost many of our rights to appeal Draft Plan of Subdivision decisions. I therefore respectfully request that you assist us by involving the Ministry of Municipal Affairs & Housing, or any other properly empowered Agency, to launch an appeal on this matter before the October 16 2023 deadline.

I am concerned about the destruction of SWH that this development would entail, the bypassing ESA regulations and the long term damage to the ecological function and biodiversity of natural heritage systems in the area. There are many additional concerns indicating that approval of this project on behalf of the municipality and the county has been premature. The safety of our community and environment is at risk.

This development proposal is part of a bigger problem: there have been changes to the Kincardine official plan involving a new "Shoreline Development" land use designation that will negatively impact our environment, watershed, and community safety. This type of reckless development policy should not be allowed to go forward.

The changes introduced though Bill 23 laid the groundwork for the Greenbelt scandal, and are at play here as well. I submit that, if you wish to avoid a similar controversy in your own constituency it is in your interest to help obtain this appeal and support our community on these matters.
