June 24, 2025 – PWEP / OFT Open House July 12th

Friends,

We are pleased to announce an Open House on July 12th, 9am-3pm, at our usual location at 2 Alma Street in Inverhuron. PWEP will be co-hosting the Open House along with the Ontario Farmland Trust (OFT), the new owner of the Bourgeois farm since last year.

The Open House is a great opportunity to learn more about the OFT, and to speak with PWEP members about our ongoing activities, including the judicial review of the Tidman development and the land use controversy. You'll also learn about our upcoming pilot projects such as water quality monitoring of the Little Sauble River. As always, we welcome your input and are interested in hearing your priorities and concerns, so that we may serve the community in the most effective, meaningful way, and ensure that Inverhuron's natural environments are safeguarded going forward.

This work is more necessary now than ever. Beginning May 1st, Kincardine was granted Strong Mayor powers, and recently Bill 5: the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act became law. These developments add up to an ongoing power grab: they undermine the democratic process by curtailing public oversight and consultation, and come at dire cost to the environment.

With regards to Bill 5, PWEP has submitted comments to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, and we join CELA, Environmental Defence and many other organizations in calling for Bill 5 to be repealed. We hope you will do the same. You can call or write a letter to the Premier and other MPPs to express your concerns.

We will share a template on the PWEP website shortly. Remember, due to public outcry the Ford government was forced to withdraw its attack on the Greenbelt. Let's keep the pressure on!

We look forward to seeing you at the open house. Please remember to spread the word and follow us on social media.

In gratitude,

The Team @ PWEP
